Stevie Wonder really hasn’t taught me anything, but one of my favorite songs by him, besides “Isn’t She Lovely”, is “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing”. Riding into town today this song came on the radio and I thought about writing this post. Quite often when talking to someone and they start to talk about worrying, I will sing this song. As humans, I think worry is a normal reaction when things pop up that concern us, and while there is no spiritual meaning to this song, it does remind me that God says 365 times to fear not or to worry. And as long as we are living right with Him, then no, we are not to worry ’bout a thing, because He, as the Creator, has our lives in His hands.
We live in an imperfect world and trials will arise, but Matthew 6:34 says, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. The amazing Corrie Ten Boom said, “Worrying is carrying tomorrow’s load with today’s strength-carrying two days at once. It is moving into tomorrow ahead of time. Worrying doesn’t empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.”
Yes, I worry at times, sometimes more than I care to share. Especially about those that are nearest to me and who wouldn’t worry when you turn on the television and see all of the bad news surrounding us, but like today and so many other times I am reminded that we are not to worry. When worry arises, stop and look around you at the beauty of God’s handiwork, ask Jesus to ease the fears, sit down with a child to play/laugh, talk to a loved one that will stand beside you to help carry the burden. Always remember that you are never alone in this life. We just have to learn to reach out.

This is on my refrigerator:
Worry doesn’t take away tomorrow’s troubles, it takes away todays peace
Sweet song! I love it!
