One of the things I am excited about this new venture is sharing craft and decor ideas with you guys. I tried working in an office and quickly found out that I am more of a hands-on person, not a sit at the desk all day sort. I love seeing things that I like and trying to make them myself at a fraction of the cost. In the past few years, I have made several of the signs we use at Christmas. Last year especially, due to medical and financial drawbacks, we made a lot of our decor items. There is just something about being able to make it with your own hands that makes it even more special and fun to do.
Last Christmas my mom and I helped my sister decorate her home for Christmas and we were trying to use things that she already had on hand. It’s amazing with a little imagination or inspiration the crafts you can make with what you already have on hand. While she and our mom were working on some things I decided to rummage through her craft room and closets for something for her mantlepiece. I came across some picture frames, in particular, a white frame. After looking for some ideas on Pinterest, who doesn’t love Pinterest?, I decided to add some greenery and a bow. And just like that with supplies that she already had, I was able to add a great piece to her mantle.
So all of that to say that I decided to make that craft yet again and share with you the steps to make it. I am loving the way it turned out. Most of us have old picture frames just laying around, right? I used a wooden frame and painted it.
Then whatever color your theme is for Christmas will work. I chose white because it goes with any particular theme and a lot of people are going with a more neutral color this year. But you could do red, green or gold.
Once you’ve painted the frame, now you decorate to your liking. Because I like the more rustic, simple look all I did was attach a couple of pieces of greenery, the greenery that you may already have or you can buy this very cheap at either a Dollar General or an arts and craft store, i.e. Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. There are three ways that you can attach the greenery, with floral wire, a hot glue gun or a stapler. I used the floral wire. I think it’s easier and you can change it out with the seasons better this way.
Now for the bow. You can buy ribbon for 50% off most of the time at Michael’s or use ribbon that you have leftover from previous Christmas’s. I have an inexpensive bow maker that I have had a while now that just makes bow making easier. But you can make a bow without one. Here is a quick video on how to make a bow, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJjw5kMr9X8. Wire the bow to the frame.
Now that everything is together, you have a beautiful, unique to you item for your home that you crafted. This is a project that you could even have the kids help you with. Or have them each make one for their bedroom.
The possibilities are endless with this craft. If you make this Christmas Frame, we would love to see your finished project. Please share with us here, on Facebook or Instagram.
