Did you know that words really are powerful? We’ve all used words to either build up or tear down others and even ourselves. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy…..we are speaking negatively over our lives. I am definitely guilty of this. So after hearing a sermon from a pastor a few years ago and then reading a book about our words, I have tried to do a study every year on words. It has been life-changing for me and I really want to share with others what I have learned.
Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
And by death, the writer is not necessarily speaking of physical death. It can be the death of a dream, relationship, career, etc. What words are you speaking over those things in your life that are most important to you? Whether we are speaking over ourselves or others, speak life and positive words.
Proverbs 16:24
Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, sweet to the mind and healing to the body.
That is pretty self-explanatory, kind words are sweet to the soul. That is one of the biggest issues in our world today. Between hiding behind social media and our own low self-esteem, we are surrounded by unkind words. Let’s be the change!
Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.
Proverbs 18:20
Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction.
1 Thessalonians 5:11
So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.
This I believe is true for ourselves too. Let’s build each other and ourselves up.
Being positive is a choice that we make every morning we wake up and our feet hit the floor. Sometimes it is hard, that is why we have to work on it daily and the choices that you make at the beginning will direct how your day will go and how you will start to look at the circumstances around you. See the positives and your outlook will start to look up!
Is the business you started not going the way you wanted it too? Instead of giving up and speaking down…..say “failure is not an option for me and things will start to pick up.”
A relationship with someone not going well? Don’t give up on it. Speak life over it and keep fighting for the good.
Our God is a good God and I believe that He wants good things for His children. That doesn’t mean that life won’t get hard sometimes but how we handle it and most importantly the words we say can and will affect how we view the circumstances around us.
Yes, we have to be realistic, but in being real let’s also try to be optimistic instead of pessimistic. We all have the power to effect change in our lives by speaking words of life, blessing, and peace. Stop and think about what you are planting before you speak because WORDS are SEEDS.
Blessings!
