Many of us are looking for ideas of things to do during Christmas that will make lasting memories yet will not break the budget. And Christmas is a time when many of us break our budgets. I hope to share with you some thoughts of memory-making ideas for this Christmas season.
Getting gifts is nice and we all love to receive things, but the older I get the more I realize that it’s the memories made with loved ones, friends and family that are more important.
This time of year is usually so busy and hectic for many that you don’t have time to read a long post, so I want to keep this short and sweet.
CHRISTMAS Bucket List
-Make a Gingerbread house. We did not make one in our home until I was a teenager. And believe me, I am a baker, but my expertise is NOT at Gingerbread houses. But the fun we have had at making one is priceless. Another thought is to have a night with several of you putting them together, like a contest, I can imagine the memories made and the fun had will last a lifetime.
-Ride and look at the Christmas lights in the area. I remember every Christmas as a kid going to a particular neighborhood to see the lights. And that is a memory that has stuck with me forever. Nowadays with all of the light contests people have, some of them are amazing!!! In North Carolina, we have several places/towns that go all out. Meadow Lights in Meadow, NC, and McAdenville, NC is known as Christmas Town.
-Have a movie marathon. Some personal favorites are “ELF”; “It’s a Wonderful Life”; “Miracle on 34th Street”, both of them; “Home Alone”; and “White Christmas”.
-Bake treats and give them as gifts.
-Go to a local Christmas parade. Many in our area are have them in the evening now, which I love. It seems more festive to me.
-Have a friend’s Christmas, like a Friendsgiving, and do it potluck style. Dare I say have an Ugly Sweater night.
-Have a game or karaoke night with loved ones. This is always a fun night for my family. We always laugh so hard till we cry.
-One of my favorites to do…turn off the tv and lights except for the Christmas tree. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and the kids and marvel at the beauty of Christmas.
-Read that Nativity story in Luke 2. Or you could read a chapter of Luke a day til Christmas Eve as there are 24 chapters in the book of Luke.
-Go to a Christmas Eve service. This is truly a favorite of mine. At the end of the service, everyone has a candle and joins in together to sing Christmas songs…I am always in awe at that moment in time.
These are just a few of the many ideas you could do during this season to make memories without breaking the bank and it is never too late to start new traditions with your family. I hope that I have encouraged you with some new ideas of things to do this Christmas season! What are some family favorites you do each year?
