Many of you have spent the week trying to get back into a routine with back to school. Whether you have kids going back to school or you’re a teacher or even going back to school yourself. And for most this is probably one of the most exhausting weeks of the year. So I just wanted to take a few minutes to encourage you this weekend, which happens to be Labor Day weekend.
Labor Day
A little bit of history first though. When trying to write this post my mom mentioned to me to research what exactly Labor Day is. So I did and learned something in the process. By the way, I love history, one of my favorite subjects growing up.
–Labor Day was first celebrated in 1882 in New York City.
–It is a day that celebrates and reflects on the contributions everyday workers have made to our society and country.
–The first state to recognize it as a holiday was Oregon.
–In 1894 the government declared it a national holiday.
–In today’s society, it signifies the end of summer and big sales.
There is much speculation as to who founded Labor Day. Some say a man by the name of Peter McGuire and others say, Matthew Maguire. Both were famous union leaders in 1882. With all that said, it is a day that we celebrate all of the hard workers in our country and who are the backbone of this nation.
I want to share a few uplifting quotes and verses that will maybe help you this weekend to reboot, recharge and be strengthened.
“A word of encouragement during a failure is worth more than an hour of praise after a success.” -Unknown
“Everyone has inside them a piece of good news. The good news is you don’t know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is.” -Anne Frank
“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.” Philippians 4:13

“Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow, it empties today of its strength.” -Corrie Ten Boom
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy 1:7
“Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
“He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.” Isaiah 40:29“
“Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait on the Lord!” Psalm 31:24
These are just some of the many verses and quotes that I have read. And I hope that the words that I have shared will bring strength and encouragement to someone this weekend. I would love to hear some of your encouraging words, so please share in the comments section.
Side note: As I am writing this, many in Florida and the southern coast are getting ready for a massive storm, Dorian, to hit. If you know someone in that area, please remember to encourage them as well and most of all keep them in your prayers. North Carolinian’s know and understand the stress and fears of those being affected.
Blessings friends!!!
