I LOVE soups and stews!!!
Can I just start by saying that I am excited about this post?!? I so enjoyed doing the research for you of my favorite soups and stews that it was hard to keep it to seven. In all honesty, I could eat soup or stew several nights a week and I would be a happy girl!
Some of the ones listed are not my original recipe, but I can say that my family has made each one and loved them. Another reason I love soups and stews is you can make a lot and freeze the leftovers for a later time or share with friends and family.
Let’s dig into my favorite recipes!!!
Favorite Soups/Stews
Pasta e Fagioli
This is a personal favorite of my family. We came across it at a famous Italian restaurant that we used to eat at frequently. But once my mom made it we never looked back…so GOOD!!!
Chicken Noodle Soup
Who doesn’t love a good chicken noodle soup? It is an American classic that has been known to cure all that ails you. We all have bought the famous can brands when someone is under the weather, but why not try your hand at homemade? It is truly so much better and you can even make it semi-homemade by buying a rotisserie chicken to use. Perfect, right?
New England Clam Chowder
Now, this one is an old classic in my family but I did not start liking it until the past couple of years. I can honestly say that it is officially one of my favorites! I have memories of my mom making clam chowder for my dad…he loves it!
It is yet another recipe that is relatively quick and easy.
As I am writing this post I am getting hungrier by the minute!!! And I will be making clam chowder this weekend. Delish!
Tomato Basil Soup
Oh my goodness, growing up, tomato soup was my all-time favorite. So, once I realized that you can make it from scratch, it was game on from there. You can truly do so much with tomato soup, from adding cream to cheese to using can or fresh tomatoes to adding cooked lobster for lobster bisque. It truly is one of the best soups to make and a great to make a large enough batch to freeze the leftovers.
Here is a top recipe that I came across to share with you…
Spinach Gnocchi Soup
I am new to this recipe. In fact, I made it this past snowy weekend for the first time but it was a hit. It is yet another “copycat” recipe from a famous Italian restaurant. Truly, it is so good and rich.
Plus, to all the mama’s out there, this is a great way to get your family to eat spinach. I have never loved spinach but it is what really makes this soup, the more the better!!
French Onion Soup
The French onion soup was a surprise to me and even my brother. Neither one of us loves onions but when we both tried this soup, it was out of this world good. I know a lot of recipes use regular yellow onions, I am partial to sweet Vidalia onions. Vidalia onions add a good sweetness to the soup.
Sausage and Cabbage Soup
For our final soup/stew recipe, we have a sausage and cabbage soup. You can definitely play around with this recipe haw ever you want. Instead of sausage, you can use hamburger or ground turkey. It is so hearty and a perfect soup to cook extra to freeze. My family loves to eat this soup over rice, almost like a gumbo.
Ok…I am officially hungry now after doing the research for some of my favorite soups/stews. Being as it is cold and January, I will be making a few of these this week.
Thanks for coming along with me today as I shared just a few of my favorite soups/stews with you. And I would love to hear from you if you try any of these recipes or please share with us some of your favorite soups/stews and I will definitely give them a try as well.
Happy cooking my friends and many blessings!!!
